A major airline is evaluating a daily flight between Moore County Airport and Washington Dulles as early as spring 2027.
“We have an airline that has expressed an interest in us. This is not a ‘they might do this,’ or ‘they could do this.’ This is a simple equation. If we come up with the funds that they need, they will deliver air service to Moore County,” shared Moore County Airport Authority Chairman Adam Kiker.
To bring a daily flight to Washington Dulles, the airline is requiring a $3 million Minimum Revenue Guarantee (MRG). This is a reserve fund that helps protect the airline if passenger demand falls below certain thresholds.
The Moore County Economic Development Partnership, the Moore County Airport and local business leaders are together to raise $3 million to secure this new route. As of March 25, they have already secured more than $1.3 million in pledges.
Runway length is already sufficient to accommodate the expected aircraft.
While adjustments would be required for TSA operations and a commercial service terminal, airport leadership expressed confidence that these infrastructure needs can be met if the MRG is secured.
The demand for commercial flights out of Moore County exists. 79% of Moore County residents support bringing commercial flights to Moore County Airport. More than 1,200 Moore County residents fly out of other airports every day. This local air service would provide easier travel for families and businesses, support local restaurants and small businesses and provide direct access to national and international connections.
Data shows that local demand supports eight to 10 flights per day, but securing this first flight is necessary in order to open the door for future growth down the road.
Leaders of the Fly Local: Moore County is Ready for Takeoff initiative aim to reach their goal of $3 million by June 30 in order to have commercial services active next spring.
