Fayetteville NC Area Convention & Visitor Bureau to host 2028 NJCAA DI Women’s Golf Championship at Gates Four Golf and Country Club

The Fayetteville NC Area Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce that the 2028 NJCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship will be held at Gates Four Golf & Country Club in Fayetteville, N.C., bringing a national collegiate sporting event to Cumberland County that is expected to generate significant overnight stays and visitor spending for the destination.

Scheduled for May 8-11, 2028, the championship is expected to include 15 teams, bringing an estimated 90 to 120 players to the market. With many attendees anticipated to stay six to seven nights, the event represents a significant piece of sports tourism business for Fayetteville and Cumberland County and is projected to produce about 350 room nights, more than $144,000 in total business sales and approximately $5,200 in local taxes. In addition to players and coaches, the event is expected to draw parents, fans and supporters to Fayetteville for nearly a week, creating meaningful economic impact for local hotels, restaurants and businesses.

Jim Gerwitz, DI Women’s Golf Chair, stated in a press release, “We are excited to move the tournament toward the East Coast, and Fayetteville, N.C., is a beautiful location. The facility and the course are top-notch; our student-athletes will definitely have a wonderful championship experience.”

Gates Four features an 18-hole championship golf course with bent-grass greens, renovated bunkers and beautiful fairways lined with tall pine trees. Designed in a traditional style by acclaimed golf course architect Willard Byrd in 1967, the course now has a new, must-see redesign completed by Kris Spence in 2011.

Beyond the competition, visitors will have the opportunity to experience Fayetteville’s hotels, restaurants and attractions throughout their stay. Known for its strong sports tourism infrastructure and diverse visitor offerings, Fayetteville continues to build its reputation as a destination capable of hosting high-caliber amateur and collegiate events.
