The City of Fayetteville will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation sports complex on Thursday, April 30, at 10 a.m. The groundbreaking will take place on McArthur Road, between I-295 and Lake Mont Court.
"This sports complex represents one of the final major milestones of our Parks and Recreation bond, and reflects our commitment to investing in our community," said City Manager Douglas Hewett in a press release. "This facility will bring regional sports opportunities to Fayetteville while expanding access to quality recreation for our local residents."
Once completed, the sports complex will feature 12 baseball fields, a multi-use building with restrooms, concessions, office space and an open-air pavilion, as well as a maintenance building to support ongoing operations.
This new recreational space on McArthur Road and in the I‑295 area is envisioned as a modern, multi‑purpose destination designed to expand opportunities for the community, supporting a wide range of sports, events and programming.
After an extensive search for land, the City partnered with Fort Bragg and signed a 30-year lease to build the complex on approximately 70 acres of undeveloped federal land.
The total budget for this parks and recreation project is $20.6 million. $3.6 million from the voter-approved 2016 Parks & Recreation Bond is funding the addition to Fayetteville's recreation amenities.
City Council recently awarded the construction contract to Group III Management for $13.6 million.
