Roof replacement project causes temporary closure of the U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum

The U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum (ASOM) will temporarily close to the public May 11–15 due to ongoing roof replacement work. 

The museum’s roof, which has protected the building for more than 25 years, is currently being replaced as part of a major facility improvement project. Museum officials hope to reopen on Saturday, May 16; however, the timeline remains subject to change depending on progress and weather conditions. Updates will be shared on the Museum’s social media platforms as more information becomes available. 

In addition to the temporary closure, visitors should expect limited parking availability during the project. Temporary locked fencing has been installed in portions of the museum’s parking areas to accommodate construction equipment and material storage. 

During this time, approximately 40–50 on-site parking spaces will remain available. 

Guests visiting downtown Fayetteville are encouraged to utilize nearby public parking options if museum parking is full. A map of public parking locations can be found here:

The parking limitations may especially impact guests attending ceremonies, downtown events, or nearby baseball games. 

“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we complete this important improvement project,” said Jim Bartlinski, ASOM Director in a press release. “These upgrades will help preserve the museum for future generations while continuing to honor the legacies of Airborne and Special Operations Soldiers.”
