A section of King Road in western Cumberland County will close starting next week for the construction of a roundabout.
The private developer for the Publix-anchored Rockfish Village shopping center south of Fayetteville is building a roundabout. It will be built on King Road south of the signalized intersection of Rockfish Road, Stoney Point Road, King Road and Lakewood Drive.
After a review, the N.C. Department of Transportation approved the developer’s request to build the roundabout to improve safety and traffic flow on King Road at the new shopping center.
The closure is scheduled to start May 27 and last until early July. Construction activities and the weather, however, may delay when King Road reopens to traffic.
Drivers may use King Road, Mesquite Drive and Stoney Point Road as the detour, which is a little more than a half-mile long.
