Proposed amendments to the Moore County Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) will be considered by the Moore County Planning Board during a special-called meeting on July 9, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room at the Historic Courthouse, 1 Courthouse Sq., Carthage.
After a series of work sessions held by the Moore County Board of Commissioners in April and May, including one held jointly with the Planning Board, the resulting proposed amendments will be ready for public input and for the Planning Board’s recommendations to the commissioners. The proposed amendments, focused on sections of the UDO regarding subdivisions and the Highway Corridor Overlay District, are intended to align with the recently updated Land Use Plan and simplify regulations.
The public can review details and the Planning Board’s July 9 meeting packet on the Moore County website: www.moorecountync.gov/. Look under Latest News on the County website for a link to the UDO updates information.
It is anticipated that the Board of Commissioners will schedule public hearings on the amendments in August. The Board will address the Small-Town Model, a new and voluntary overlay district included within the updated Land Use Plan, later this year.
