The Airborne & Special Operations Museum Foundation (ASOMF) Board of Directors recently announced the appointment of Margaret Britten as executive director. Britten’s appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Foundation, one built on the extraordinary legacy of her predecessor, Renee Lane, who is retiring after seven years of dedicated and transformative service.
Under Lane's leadership from 2019 through 2026, the Foundation grew in reach, impact and community presence, helping establish ASOMF as a vital institution within the Fayetteville and military communities. To honor her legacy, the Renee Lane Endowment for the ASOM Foundation has been established through the Cumberland Community Foundation at cumberlandcf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=8300.
The Foundation also extends its gratitude to Finance Director Tiffany Slifka, who served as interim executive director during the transition, ensuring continuity of operations and a seamless handoff of leadership.
"Renee Lane has been an extraordinary steward of this Foundation, and her dedication and professionalism have left a lasting mark on this organization and our community. We are deeply grateful for her service and wish her all the best in this well-earned next chapter," said Lynne Greene, president of the ASOMF Board of Directors, in a press release. "We are equally thrilled to welcome Margaret, whose leadership experience, fundraising expertise, and deep ties to the military community make her exceptionally well-suited to lead the Foundation forward."
Britten brings more than a decade of nonprofit and communications leadership to the role. Most recently, she served as Senior Director of Advancement for the national nonprofit Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB), where she functioned as the organization's chief revenue and external engagement officer, providing unified strategic leadership across development, marketing, and communications. During her tenure at Team RWB, she rose through a series of increasingly senior roles, helping drive record organizational growth and impact.
Prior to Team RWB, she served as Communications Director for the USO of North Carolina, overseeing strategic communications and marketing across 11 statewide locations, and as Account Manager at ScoutComms, a boutique public relations firm specializing in military and veteran affairs, where she led campaigns for clients including Fortune 500 companies and leading military-serving organizations. The daughter of a retired U.S. Army Special Forces officer and a current Fort Bragg military spouse, her connection to the museum's mission is both personal and professional, shaped by a lifelong appreciation for the sacrifices and service of America's military community.
As executive director, Britten will lead the Foundation's fundraising, donor relations, strategic partnerships, and community engagement efforts in support of the Airborne & Special Operations Museum's educational programs, exhibits, and long-term sustainability.
"I am honored to step into a role built on such a strong foundation shaped by dedicated board members, visionary leaders, and most recently, Renee Lane's extraordinary seven years of service," said Britten in a press release. "The museum preserves the stories of men and women whose service and sacrifice helped shape our country. As the daughter of a Green Beret and a military spouse who has spent my career serving the military-connected community, I look forward to working alongside the Foundation's board, staff, donors, community partners, and the Army team at the museum to ensure those stories continue to educate and inspire for generations to come."
