The Blood Connection to assume operations of Cape Fear Valley Blood Donor Center

Blood donors in Fayetteville will continue supporting patients at Cape Fear Valley Health through a new nonprofit community blood center as The Blood Connection assumes operation of the Cape Fear Valley Blood Donor Center effective Aug. 1. While the name of the blood center will change to the Fayetteville Community Blood Center, the purpose will remain the same: to give Fayetteville a chance to save the lives of your neighbor through blood donation.

Cape Fear Valley Health announced that this transition is part of a strategic resource planning change where TBC will become the sole supplier of blood products for the health system. This transition allows the hospital to focus on patient care, while The Blood Connection dedicates its full resources to recruiting donors, collecting blood and maintaining a safe blood supply. TBC has served the Southeast for 64 years. Cape Fear Valley Health joins more than 145 healthcare partners, EMS and med-flight organizations across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia in relying on TBC.

The Blood Connection, like Cape Fear Valley Health Blood Center, began in 1962 in Greenville, S.C. as an extension of a local hospital network with the goal of safeguarding the community blood supply following World War II. Since then, TBC has remained singularly focused on collecting, testing and delivering lifesaving blood, platelets and plasma to hospitals so that medical staff remain singularly focused on saving the patient before them.

English, president and CEO of The Blood Connection, in a press release. “For over six decades, healthcare systems have placed their trust in us because of our reliability and dedication. It’s our honor to stand in the gap for countless trauma victims, children fighting cancer, mothers experiencing childbirth complications and surgery patients.”

TBC’s Fayetteville Community Blood Center will close on Aug. 1 for remodeling and will reopen to the public on Friday, Sept. 4 to welcome faithful donors and new, first-time donors into the center. Fayetteville can expect expanded donor incentives and a renewed focus on community engagement. The Center will be open from 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and from 7 a.m.- 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The Center will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

In addition to the donor center, TBC operates bloodmobiles across the area, allowing the community to make an impact for neighbors in need. Every donation made in Fayetteville directly supports patients at Cape Fear Valley Health and beyond.

It has always been the generosity of the people who roll up their sleeves to help someone they may never meet,” said Corporate Director of Oncology and Laboratory Services at Cape Fear Valley Health April Maroschak in a press release. “As this transition takes place, we hope our employees and community members will continue that tradition by donating blood through The Blood Connection so patients across our region receive the care they need.
