Looking for a new local dining option? Dab’s Soul Food Cafe is a small business owned and operated by Alabama native Antonia Adams.
Adams opened Dab’s Soul Food Cafe in October 2019. She was working for a restaurant that was located there previously, and when the owners shared that they were preparing to close down, Adams took over and bought the space and converted it into Dab’s Soul Food Cafe.
“I’ve always loved cooking…It’s just something about seeing people's reaction when they taste the food. It just does something to me. It makes me feel good, and I tell people I cook with love, so it makes a difference when you cook with love, and that's when people really enjoy it,” shared Adams.
The restaurant specializes in soul food, including fried chicken wings, fried pork chops, smothered chicken wings, smothered pork chops, smoked turkey, fried catfish, gumbo, shrimp and grits, collard greens, yams, pasta salad and banana pudding for dessert. Adams also serves specialty lemonades made with real fresh fruit.
The owner, who runs the business single-handedly, is open every day except for Wednesday and Sunday and offers delivery through DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub. She also does catering and supports the local community by feeding unhoused individuals.
Looking forward, Adams hopes to acquire a food truck and host more events for the community.
“I’m a Christian, so whenever God says that it’s my time to expand, that’s when I’ll have to, you know, do what He says to do. So right now, I just listen to what He tells me to do, and I always pray and ask Him what’s my next step,” shared Adams.
