Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation announces support of a Residential Artist – Arts Education Workshops for Patients with the help of a grant in the amount of $12,000 from the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County and the North Carolina Arts Council.
“This grant will allow us to continue providing the healing benefits of art to our cancer patients, while expanding the program to also serve our neurological patients,” said Sabrina Brooks, vice president Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation in a press release. “Regardless of ability, art is an inclusive and adaptable tool that can support recovery and the well-being of our patients. We are grateful to our friends at the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County and the North Carolina Arts Council for awarding us this grant.”
Arts education workshops will provide our patients, many who are adjusting to various treatments, financial challenges, depression and other stresses related to their condition, a therapeutic activity that enables them to express through art what they may not be able to put into words. One of the program’s goals is to help patients feel comfortable engaging with the arts and discover how art can be used as a tool for healing.
This program will continue to be offered to cancer patients at the Cape Fear Valley Cancer Treatment and Cyberknife Center, while expanding to serve neurological patients in both inpatient and outpatient rehab. A residential artist will lead arts education workshops to neurological patients who are recovering from a stroke, traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury, as well as those living with Alzheimer’s disease.
Grassroots Art Project Grants increase opportunities for access to arts, cultural, and historical programming in Cumberland County. The grants are awarded to nonprofit agencies, institutions of higher education, and municipal entities in Cumberland County that demonstrate financial and administrative stability.
