Fayetteville nonprofit breaks ground on Inasmuch Village, a permanent housing community for homeless Veterans

This morning, Aug. 19, Operation Inasmuch broke ground on its new 16-home community for Veterans, Inasmuch Village. This project is being donated and built by Linda and Ralph Huff.

“It really is great to see this many people out today on a project that has been going on in my mind for many years and has been under active development since 2023…We built 7000 houses in this community, 3000 apartments, and we did that because of the military. We sold these and rented these to military, and when we sold something to somebody who wasn't military, that person was selling to the military so that they could buy,” shared Ralph Huff during the ceremony. “So everything that we have, we feel like goes back to the military influence in our community. We've given to our schools and our churches. We've given to things that are quality of life: the hospital, the med school, [the] botanical garden, the Cape Fear Regional Theater. But we really wanted to do something here that would be for those who got us all here, and for those who’ve given so much.”

Located near Inasmuch’s campus at 531 Hillsboro St., Inasmuch Village will consist of 16 fully furnished one-bedroom cottages, including 12 accessible homes and four homes specially designed for individuals with disabilities. Residents will pay rent on a sliding scale based on 30% of their income, with applications administered through Inasmuch.

The first residents are expected to move in in 2027.
