Harnett County Tax Department mails 2026 property tax bills and offers payment plans

By Staff Report, posted Aug 28, 2026 on BizFayetteville.com

The Harnett County Tax Department is mailing property tax bills today, Friday, Aug. 28, 2026. Property owners should receive their bills in the coming days.

The Tax Department wants property owners to know that payment plans are available for those who want to make smaller incremental payments. Payment plans allow property owners to make partial payments from the time tax bills have been mailed out and before the bill becomes delinquent on Jan. 5, 2027.

Property owners can make equal monthly payments or choose to pay any amount from the time the bill is mailed through the deadline on Jan. 5, 2027.

Payments should include the bill number and the words “installment of payment” in the memo section of the check.

After each payment is received, the Tax Department will apply the payment to the tax bill and will mail the property owners a statement with the updated balance.

Payment Options:
•     Cash: In person only at the Harnett County Tax Department (305 W. Cornelius Harnett Blvd., Suite 101, Lillington).
•     Check, certified check or money order: In person or by U.S. mail.
•     Credit card, debit card or ACH: In person, online or by phone.

Online payments can be made at: https://cama.harnett.org/ITSPublicHT/TaxBillSearch. You can also pay by phone at 1-866-580-9996.

A convenience fee is charged by the payment vendor credit card or debit card payments. This fee is not charged by the Harnett County Tax Department.

Property owners will need their tax bill number when making a payment online or by phone.

Property owners who want to use a payment plan should start making payments as soon as possible.  All 2026 property taxes must be paid by Jan. 5, 2027, to avoid delinquency. Any unpaid balance as of Jan. 6, 2027, will be subject to interest under North Carolina General Statute 105-360.
