USDA Rural Development participates in groundbreaking ceremony with Angier & Black River Fire Department

Members of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development North Carolina team recently participated in a groundbreaking ceremony with Angier and Black River Fire Department.

The Angier and Black River Fire Department will utilize a $6 million loan through USDA’s Community Facilities Program to construct a new five-bay fire station.

“This $6 million investment in the Angier and Black River Fire Department puts rural North Carolina first by giving our firefighters the modern facilities they need to protect families, farms, businesses and livelihoods. USDA Rural Development is proud to stand with the men and women who answer the call every day and to make investments that strengthen public safety, support local communities and ensure rural America remains a great place to live, work and raise a family,” said USDA Rural Development Director of State Operations Robert Hosford in a press release.

The new 7,000-square-foot fire house will include:

Sleeping quarters
Restrooms and showers
Kitchen and dining spaces
Offices, dayroom and storage areas

USDA’s Community Facilities Loan and Grant Program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. An essential community facility is defined as a facility that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area, and does not include private, commercial or business undertakings.
