At their meeting on Sept. 14, Fayetteville City Council adopted a resolution supporting Project Crossing and authorized an application for a $152,000 N.C. Department of Commerce Building Reuse Grant. This application for a Building Reuse Grant was recently approved by the N.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA). Under the Vacant Building Category, the City of Fayetteville was approved to receive a $152,000 grant that will support the reuse of a 17,170-square-foot building in Fayetteville for Sigma Crossings & Railroad Products, Inc.

Sigma Crossings & Railroad Products, Inc. plans to establish a manufacturing facility at 595 S. King St. The company manufactures railroad products for short line railroads, transit systems, and industrial customers. According to Governor Stein’s office, the project is expected to create 20 jobs and attract an investment of $3,581,000. These new jobs will have an average annual wage of $57,700, according to the City of Fayetteville.

The RIA also approved two grant requests under the state’s Rural Downtown Economic Development program. Under the Public Buildings Category, the Town of Clinton will receive an $81,000 grant to support the restoration of the Clinton Theatre with a new roof. The grant will help prevent deterioration and protect the recently renovated interior. This project is expected to leverage an additional investment of $10,019.
