The City of Fayetteville’s Solid Waste Division invites residents to an afternoon of family-friendly fun at the rescheduled Meet Spiffy & Touch-a-Truck event on Saturday, Nov. 7, from noon to 3 p.m. at 455 Grove St.
Taking place following Fayetteville’s Veterans Day parade, the event offers families an afternoon of entertainment, interactive activities and opportunities to meet the employees who help keep Fayetteville clean. Children can meet Spiffy, the City’s Solid Waste mascot, and explore the trucks used in daily collection operations.
“Our team takes pride in serving Fayetteville every day, and this event gives residents a chance to see the people and equipment behind those services,” said Public Services Assistant Director Daniel Edwards in a press release. “We want families to have fun, ask questions and leave with a better understanding of what we do and how everyone can play a part in keeping Fayetteville clean.”
Activities and attractions include:
All activities are free and open to the public.
Spiffy was brought to life through a community mascot design contest launched in 2024. The winning design was created by Iris Niang, then a student at Berean Baptist Academy, and was selected to become the official mascot of the Solid Waste Division. Niang received a $500 scholarship for her winning design and was recognized alongside the contest’s finalists in February 2025. Spiffy made his official in-person debut in August 2026.
Today, Spiffy serves as a friendly face for the division’s public education and outreach efforts, helping residents learn about proper waste disposal, recycling and the role they place in keeping Fayetteville clean.
