Valley Regional Imaging joins Cape Fear Valley Health: What patients and staff can expect

Sponsored Content provided by Tony Brisson - Director of Outpatient Radiology, Cape Fear Valley Health

Valley Regional Imaging (VRI) is set to officially become part of the Cape Fear Valley Health system. The acquisition, which has been in the works for several months, will culminate on Aug. 25, when the facility will be rebranded as the Cape Fear Valley Outpatient Imaging Center.

The transition has been carefully planned to minimize disruption. The goal is for nothing operationally to be changed as far as the process and the way patients are scheduled, and the efficiency that VRI already had at getting people scheduled and seen. The staff, many of whom have years of experience in outpatient imaging, will remain in place, ensuring continuity of care. VRI staff officially became Cape Fear Valley Health employees on June 1, 2025.

The center performs procedures such as X-rays, bone density scans, MRI scans, CT scans and ultrasounds. They see an average of 160 to 170 patients per day. The imaging clinic is located downstairs at 3186 Village Drive in Suite 101. Valley Radiology, located on the upper level of the building, is responsible for reading the exams once they’re completed. Valley Radiology is not part of the acquisition.

One of the most significant changes will be the implementation of the EPIC Electronic Medical Record System, a move designed to enhance patient care and streamline operations. EPIC will allow patients to access their reports, communicate with providers, and view lab results through the MyChart portal. Patients can rest assured that their previous records will remain accessible, and the transition will be handled behind the scenes.

Looking ahead, there are discussions about expanding services, including the possible addition of fluoroscopy, a specialized X-ray procedure. Currently, fluoroscopy services are offered at the hospital, and offering this in an outpatient setting would be quicker and more convenient for patients.

As the August 25 transition date approaches, staff are focused on ensuring a smooth changeover. Day to day operations will be exactly like they are now, but the goal is to be even more efficient than they already are.

The acquisition represents a new chapter for Valley Regional Imaging, promising enhanced technology and continued dedication to patient care as part of the Cape Fear Valley Health system.
