Cumberland County teen recognized for volunteering with national award

A local teen was recently honored for his volunteer service to the Cape Fear Community Emergency Response Team. Alex Gathright was recognized by the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners for his commitment as a recipient of the Presidential Volunteer Service Award. The Presidential Volunteer Service Award is a national honor offered in recognition of sustained volunteer service. Gathright, who has accumulated 100 volunteer hours since June, was honored at a regular board meeting held on Dec. 19.
