Fayetteville State University (FSU) is excited to announce its inaugural classification as a Research University in the latest Carnegie Classifications 2025. This esteemed recognition highlights FSU’s substantial investment in research and scholarship.

The Carnegie Classifications, updated every three years, categorize institutions based on their total research and development expenditures and number of Research doctorate awards, averaged for the last three years. This year, FSU is among 218 institutions recognized as a Research College/University. To qualify, institutions must spend at least $2.5 million on research. FSU significantly exceeded this requirement in 2024 by garnering $32,927,814 on research and development during the last fiscal year.

Monica T. Leach, provost and senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, expressed pride in this accomplishment.

“We are honored to receive the Carnegie Classification as a research university. This designation reflects the dedication and expertise of our faculty and the unwavering commitment of our students,” stated Leach in a press release. “This recognition will not only elevate our institution’s standing in the academic community but will also enhance our ability to attract top-tier talent and secure funding opportunities. As we embrace this new chapter, we remain dedicated to nurturing intellectual curiosity and making meaningful contributions to society.”

FSU’s Chief Research Officer, Ganesh Bora is overwhelmed at the success of the faculty and staff in receiving research funding.

“Transition of FSU into a Research University is due to the unwavering contribution of our skilled researchers and students pushing the boundaries of knowledge through rigorous research, flourishing innovative ideas, promoting intellectual environment,” remarked Bora in a press release.

This milestone marks a significant step forward for FSU, strengthening its position as a leading institution for research and academic scholarships.
