City of Fayetteville gives update on strategic plan execution

By Staff Report, posted 3 years ago

The City of Fayetteville sent out a performance report for its strategic plan on Oct. 15.

The strategic plan was drafted in February of this year, and the council members met with a  consultant for the plan in April.

Public safety, infrastructure, beautification, revitalization and affordable housing, and community engagement were some topics of priority discussed for the one-year plan for the year 2022.

The city also outlined their five-year goal plans, of which their second goal would be to ensure the City of Fayetteville has a responsive city government that supports a diverse and viable economy, the report said.

While much of the strategic plan is well underway and on schedule to be completed in the fiscal year or in the time frame planned, some of the goals are delayed or behind schedule. The progress and execution of the goals in the strategic have been made available to the public “in an effort to be transparent and accountable,” the City Manager’s Report said.

This vision mentioned objectives like ensuring a diverse city tax base, investing in community places to ensure revitalization and increasing the quality of life, leveraging partnerships for job creation and retention focusing on local and regional workforce to increase per capita income. Other objectives included sustaining a favorable developmental climate that will boost business growth.

The performance reports are compiled by “gathering data from residents, elected officials, and staff to determine the correct activities in which the organization should engage, monitoring those activities on a periodic basis, and reporting the performance data from those activities to residents, elected officials, and staff.  It is this cycle of data gathering, performance monitoring, and reporting that leads to continuous performance improvement and, ultimately, world-class performance by the organization,” the City Manager’s Report said.

The steps the city listed to achieve those objectives were the Murchison Choice Neighborhood Plan, a redevelopment of FMHA’s Murchison townhouses, that includes 60 units of low-income housing.

The CNI Plan will seek to replace 100 percent of those housing units within the neighborhood or in other areas of opportunity as part of new mixed-income developments. For more information on this project, visit https://murchisonchoice.com

Other steps included executing a redevelopment plan with beautification and business growth in mind for Murchison Road and Bragg Boulevard. This goal was marked

The 2022 budget aims to continue municipal services to support the growth of the city which includes providing for continuation of the Corridor Revitalization program, fund advertisement for added flight destinations and services at the Fayetteville Regional Airport, constructing an 8-unit T Hangar, completing infrastructure improvements at Hurley Plaza at the redevelopment and stadium site and more.
Stakeholders and partners listed included residents, businesses, faith-based organizations, non-profits, Fayetteville and Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, Center for Economic Empowerment and Development, Public Works Commission, Fayetteville Technical Community College, Fayetteville State University and Greater Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce.
