Visit North Carolina, in conjunction with Tourism Economics, recently unveiled its 2022 Economic Impact of Travel on North Carolina Counties study, which highlights the significant impact of tourism on Cumberland County.

The study showed tourism led to a $666.7 million economic impact – a sizable 9.5 percent increase over 2021. Travel and tourism related jobs also surged in 2022, with more than 4,800 jobs created in the county. This represents a 7.4 percent increase over 2021. As a result, Cumberland County received $45.5 million from travel-related activities. This led to $132.43 in tax savings for every county resident, underlining how travel and tourism benefit local communities.

“This county is home to distinct experiences,” said Devin Heath, President and CEO of DistiNCtly Fayetteville, in a press release. “From art and history to food and sports and it is clear that travelers are excited to visit and enjoy what we have to offer. Looking ahead, the Fayetteville area is poised to attract more visitors as we invest in our area and showcase what makes Cumberland County great.”

The robust economic travel impact ranks Cumberland County 12th among North Carolina’s 100 counties.

Cited statistics are from The Economic Impact of Travel on North Carolina Counties study that was prepared for Visit North Carolina by Tourism Economics, an internationally respected research organization focused on the travel sector.
