At Campbell University, the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program stands out due to the specialized topics and hands-on training opportunities offered to students. The key features that set Campbell apart from other programs consist of four areas: an Innovative Market-Driven Curriculum, Ultimate Flexibility, our Professional and Respected Reputation, and the Expanding Opportunities for personal and professional development.
MBA students at the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business can explore topics like entrepreneurship, equity funding, technology commercialization, analytics, digital marketing, global business, and ethics in-depth. In addition, all our MBA students must complete a capstone course that assigns them to serve as business consultants to actual small businesses and their owners. This eight-week MBA Business Consulting Practicum is made possible through a partnership with the Small Business Center Network.
During the eight-week practicum, students work with client-companies to analyze their current performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and generate recommendations to help clients enhance their competitiveness and profitability. The goal is for the MBA students to establish a collaborative relationship with the client and analyze the business through conducting a SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) analysis.
By the end of the practicum, students present recommendations to improve the competitiveness and profitability of the business to the client and work to secure the client’s commitment to implement an agreed-upon set of recommendations.
The practicum allows students to develop a wide range of skills that are crucial in the business world, such as developing trust, collaboration, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, which are honed through hands-on experience. Having the chance to apply the theoretical concepts they've learned in the classroom to real-world situations enables students to bridge the gap between theory and practice and enhance their job readiness.
Eligible businesses receive this support from MBA students as a free and confidential service. The MBA Business Consulting Practicum primarily serves small and midsize businesses located in the greater Harnett County area, which includes Chatham, Cumberland, Hoke, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Sampson and Wake Counties. However, Campbell does welcome the opportunity to add other areas and states to our client company roster.
The Business Consulting Practicum is offered three times a year — in the spring, summer, and fall — and includes both face-to-face and virtual options.
