Fayetteville native Kwame Molden is the co-founder of Springbreak (SPGBK) Watches, a company that has garnered national attention this month. Their business is to create colorful and impactful watches inspired by their community, culture and strong passion for education.

The watches are charmingly named in honor of a school, community, or event in Fayetteville. “I just want to make sure that we do as much as we can for the city and the communities that we represent,” shared Molden.

Their watches are sold in Nordstrom, Macy’s and Belk. Earlier this month, Molden and his partner were invited to be featured in Good Morning America’s “Deals & Steals” celebrating Black-owned businesses. “They had a magnificent display on the show. I really, really liked how they represented our products really well on the show and it was an incredible experience,” commented Molden.

Molden shared that being featured on Good Morning America drove a huge amount of traffic to the company’s website.

On the day that they were featured, Molden took to social media to share his excitement about the growth the company has seen: “We started this business in 2013 out of my apartment while I was working corporate at Wells Fargo. Now we are on national television and in 200+ stores across the country!”

In addition to their premiere on GMA, Molden got to visit the expanded display of SPGBK watches in Macy’s in NYC, the largest store in the world.

“We’ve been in Macy’s for a little while now, and I just remember the first time I went up there, I could barely find our watches. I think they were sold out or maybe they only had a few but now I go up there and we have like our own case…we have our own main display. It shows the growth and really shows the investment that Macy’s has done for us like they without a doubt they support us. Macy’s goes beyond, outside of just buying watches and selling our watches they really invest in the success of our company,” added Molden.

SPGBK Watches will continue to grow and cater to a larger market. Molden has some ideas for the future of the business.

“I want to grow through products, I want to continue creating unique watches that people want…I want to diversify our collections, that’s a top priority. Also just strengthening our relationship with our current retailers…and doing more for the community. I want to get out and do positive things in specifically the Fayetteville community for sure,” concluded Molden.
