Harnett County drainage improvement requires temporary detour

By Staff Report, posted 1 hour ago

N.C. Department of Transportation maintenance crews in Harnett County plan to close a portion of Overhills Road from 8 a.m. on Aug. 24 until the afternoon of Aug. 28 to replace a drainage pipe.

The existing 18-inch crossline pipe near Elliott Bridge Road will be upsized to improve drainage capacity based on a review by the department’s Hydraulics Unit, which recommended allowing more water to safely pass underneath the roadway.

The department is replacing this crossline pipe before this roadway is resurfaced later this year. In addition, this proactive improvement will help strengthen and upgrade the local roadway infrastructure and reduce future maintenance needs.

During the closure, the detour will use Lasater Road, N.C. 210, and Elliott Bridge Road.

Drivers should plan for a longer commute while using the detour and exercise caution near the work zone, where barricades and crews will be present.
