TRP Sumner recently announced that Jason Poole was recently elected to serve as the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.

Jason has served on the Board of Trustees since 2017. Appointments to the Board are made by the NC Speaker of the House, UNC Board of Governors, and the NC Senate Pro Tem. The current ECU Student Body President is included as a member of the Board of Trustees as well.

Jason’s appointment in 2017 was made by Speaker Tim Moore of the NC House of Representatives. This was Speaker Moore’s first appointment to the ECU Board of Trustees. Jason was reappointed for a four-year term in 2021 by the UNC Board of Governors. The trustees are allowed to serve two, 4-year terms.

Chancellor Phillip Rogers recently welcomed the newly appointed Board and shared some of ECU’s strategic plans. “We are future focused, and innovation driven, which was endorsed by our trustees this Spring. This thinking and direction will guide the university’s work through 2028,” stated Rogers in a press release.

Jason Poole shared his thoughts as the newly elected Chair in a press release. “I am honored to be given this opportunity to lead the East Carolina University Board of Trustees. ECU gave me, as a first-generation college student, the foundation to build a professional career that I am proud of. I look forward to helping ECU fulfill its mission to be a national model for student success, public service, and regional transformation.

Jason’s term as Chairperson is for one year, and the chair typically serves two consecutive 1-year terms. Jason’s term on the Board will be completed in 2025.
