The Cumberland County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) has been awarded $204,459 to increase awareness of the WIC program among military families and reduce barriers to participation.

The funds were awarded through the Food Research & Action Center - WIC Community Innovation and Outreach Project which provided funding to 36 organizations nationally that have data-driven innovative outreach approaches to bolster existing and potential WIC participants with a focus on underserved populations.

Through a unique community coalition, Fort Bragg Public Health Partnership, CCDPH will work alongside Fort Bragg Department of Public Health, the University of North Carolina (UNC) Gillings School of Global Public Health, and the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center to identify WIC messaging that is relevant for military staff and develop processes for enrollment and engagement in WIC.

The Partnership will use community-level data and innovative food access partnerships to amplify outreach and effectively reduce barriers. The project aims to raise awareness of WIC and reduce barriers to participation for families on the Fort Bragg Army installation and military community in Cumberland County.
