Pinehurst Medical Clinic (PMC) is thrilled to announce the recruitment of Alessandra Carrillo, DO, a highly respected medical hematology and oncology physician, who will provide patient services under agreement with FirstHealth. FirstHealth with Pinehurst Medical Clinic Hematology & Medical Oncology are proud of this collaborative effort to ensure exceptional care for patients across the region.

PMC and FirstHealth have a long history of collaboration, working together for years to deliver high-quality health care to local communities. As one of the largest independent healthcare organizations in the area, PMC serves as a pillar to FirstHealth’s medical oncology program, as Carrillo will join 10 other PMC hematology & medical oncology providers including Susan Bazinet, FNP-C, Bobbi Clark, ACNP-C, Laura Hanson, MD, Michelle Hunt, FNP-BC, Charles Kuzma, MD, Alicia Libby, PA, Sarah Pearce, DNP, Robert Polymeyer, MD, Thomas Richard, MD and Matthew Scarlotta, MD, who also provide patient services under agreement with FirstHealth.

“Recruiting and retaining top medical talent like Dr. Carrillo is critical to the health care services PMC provides,” said Brandon Enfinger, CEO of PMC, in a press release. “Her expertise in cancer care will further enhance the level of care available to our community.”

Carrillo’s addition not only expands the depth of expertise available but reaffirms the shared mission of PMC and FirstHealth: to bring world-class healthcare close to home.

Carrillo developed a passion for caring for others at a young age, inspired by her mother’s example of deep compassion. She has always felt a strong sense of duty toward her fellow human beings, which motivated her to serve in the U.S. Army and ultimately to pursue a career in medicine.

“For me, health care is not just a profession; it is a calling. Medicine encompasses everything I value: justice, service, empathy, and the opportunity to support people during their most vulnerable moments,” she stated in a press release.

Carrillo earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and received her Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields in Olympia Fields, Ill. She recently completed a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology with Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Her care philosophy emphasizes that strong physician-patient relationships are essential for delivering high-quality, personalized care. She is committed to practicing evidence-based medicine and providing compassionate care, recognizing the emotional, physical, and existential challenges that often accompany cancer or blood disorder diagnoses.

Alessandra Carillo, DO, will see patients at the FirstHealth Cancer Center at 135 Page Road North, Pinehurst, NC.
