With deep roots in the Fayetteville area and a steadily expanding footprint across North Carolina, H2 Contracting has built its business on a core value: in construction, relationships and follow-through matter just as much as bricks and steel.
Owner Kyle Holmes started H2 Contracting nearly 11 years ago after spending about nine years learning the industry from the ground up. His career began as a teenager working at a hunting and fishing store, where he met a local contractor. That connection led to hands-on experience in the field, working summers throughout high school and college, and it eventually inspired him to launch his own firm.
Today, H2 Contracting has grown into a team of 19 employees and manages a portfolio spanning office, retail, multifamily, government and specialty projects. In the last several years, H2 has completed multiple high-profile office buildings, multi-unit strip centers with national brand tenants, medical offices, veterinary clinics throughout the Carolinas, certified OEM dealership design and construction, military and government facilities and hospitality groups.
A core part of H2 Contracting’s value proposition is its ability to self-perform certain components of construction. By taking on select scopes of work directly, the firm gains greater control over scheduling and quality. Just as important is the network of subcontractors the company works with repeatedly from project to project. H2 Contracting puts strong emphasis on building and maintaining those relationships, as well as on clear, straightforward communication with clients. The result is a project environment where expectations, timelines and responsibilities are understood, and where meeting deadlines and delivering a high-quality finished product are non-negotiable standards.
As demand for its services has grown, H2 Contracting has invested in its own infrastructure. In addition to maintaining the main office on McGilvary Street that was purchased from a family member, H2 has purchased property on Drake Street in Fayetteville, where it is combining the Main Office and Field Operations into a single complex. Renovations are underway, with plans to move into the larger facility by the end of the year. The new space will bring the entire operation under one roof, improving coordination and efficiency as the firm continues to scale. H2 has a second office in Moore County.
To support that growth, H2 Contracting is actively hiring additional personnel and has recently added a post-construction manager focused on closeout and maintaining the same expeditious effort in finalizing the client's needs.
The company’s current pipeline reflects its momentum: a new townhome project and a wellness clinic in Southern Pines, multiple retail spaces, a grocery-anchored development in Charlotte and a unique hospitality project called Trailside near the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte. H2 Contracting is also building locations for a new fitness and gym concept, including a site in Waxhaw, as well as an upcoming child development center in Eastern North Carolina.
Grounded in local roots and guided by a relationship-first mindset, H2 Contracting continues to expand its reach while staying focused on the fundamentals: communication, dependability and a finished product that reflects the company’s high standards.
Once Upon a Bite launched in early 2026 and has continued to grow through local markets, festivals, private events and community partnerships throughout the Fayetteville area.
