The Sampson County Economic Development Team recently published their 2022 annual report. The report details economic and demographic statistics for the county and offers predictions for future growth or decline.

According to the data, the population of Sampson County is 58,183. The regional labor pool is currently 427,309 employees which decreased from 430,768 in 2021. The employment rate is 96.89 percent, a slight increase from 96 percent reported last year.

They calculated that 46.6 percent of residents have at least some college education, and 25.2 percent earned an associate’s degree or higher.

As for real estate, the median household income is $42,200 and the average sales price for a single-family home is $215,602. When comparing these numbers with those the Sampson County EDC released for 2021, median household income has remained the same, but the median home sales price has increased quite a bit from $93,664 in 2021.

The top five industries in Sampson County, consistent with what they were in the previous year, are reported to be:

- Agriculture, Forestry, Finishing, and Hunting

- Government

- Manufacturing

- Retail

- Health care and social assistance

The 2021 report explained the various incentives being offered to bring in new businesses such as grants, loans, in-kind support, or partial reimbursement of taxes paid for a set time. The data presented in the 2022 report indicates that these incentives proved successful. From July 2021 to June 2022 Sampson welcomed 497 new businesses.

Sampson County continues to invest in the future of the community. Over the past two years, Sampson has invested $4.5 million towards future businesses and industrial uses.
