Cumberland County Real property tax appeals deadline May 22

The Cumberland County Tax Administration is accepting real property appeal requests for the 2024 tax year from taxpayers who own or control taxable real property. The tax appeal request seeks a hearing before the Board of Equalization and Review. 

The Board of Equalization and Review will hold a hearing on May 22 at 3:30 p.m. in room 564 on the fifth floor of the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse, located at 117 Dick Street in Fayetteville.

Requests for a hearing before the Board of Equalization and Review must be made in writing and received on or before the board’s adjournment date of May 22. Send requests by mail to: Tax Administration, P.O. Box 449, Fayetteville, NC 28302, or by email to taxrealestate@cumberlandcountync.gov.

Appeal forms can be downloaded from the Tax Administration website at cumberlandcountync.gov/tax by clicking on the “Forms and Publications” tab on the left side of the webpage. Appeal forms may also be requested by mail or email at the email address listed above or by calling Customer Service at 910-678-7507.

Completed appeal forms may be delivered by personal appearance, by mail to Tax Administration, P.O. Box 449, Fayetteville, NC 28302 or by email to taxrealestate@cumberlandcountync.gov on or before the date of adjournment of the board. 

Appeals may also be placed in the secure drop box located outside the Courthouse at the rear entrance off Cool Spring and Russell streets. Forms may also be sent by fax to 910-223-3343 or 910-678-7582. Appeals mailed to Tax Administration for the Board of Equalization and Review, must be postmarked no later than May 22 to be considered timely. 

All taxpayers who appeal their values will be contacted by an appraiser. If the appeal goes to a hearing before the board, the taxpayer will be contacted by the appraiser and notified by letter, stating the date the appeal will be heard.

Property owners are encouraged to provide supporting evidence for consideration. Examples of evidence include appraisals, sales of similar properties in the neighborhood, cost estimates of structural repairs or pictures of the property showing other than typical conditions. This information will be considered to determine any effect on value established per the 2017 Schedule of Values.
