The Harnett County Tax Department will begin reappraising Harnett County properties starting the week of Jan. 2, 2024. Field appraisers will review over 73,000 parcels of land in Harnett County, including residential, commercial, agricultural, and industrial land, to update property values.
The 2026 reappraisal is the process of updating real property values across the county to reflect the current market value as of Jan. 1, 2026. The reappraisal will consider improvements to the land and the property's condition from the exterior.
Members of the reappraisal team can be identified by the following:
• Their vehicle will be marked with the Harnett County logo.
• Appraisers will be wearing neon vests with the Harnett County logo.
• Appraisers will carry their Harnett County-issued identification badges.
“Reappraisal is always a challenge, the goal is to appraise tens of thousands of properties all at one time, and in a way that is fair and equitable to all property owners,” said Christne Wallace, Harnett County Tax Administrator in a press release. “We strive to follow the established industry standards for mass appraisal and assist in educating the citizens of Harnett County on the entire reappraisal process. The Tax Department is here to answer any questions you may have during this process.”
It is expected that a field appraiser will visit each Harnett County parcel between January 2024 and September 2025.
North Carolina law requires all counties to reappraise real property once every eight years to verify that the tax information shown on properties is accurate. Counties may set their revaluation schedule to every four years if voted on by the Board of Commissioners. Harnett County is on a four-year reappraisal cycle.
