Delish Market & Creamery opened on Oct. 6, and the community is already buzzing about the new concept. Owned by business partners Chet Steen and Tommie Purser, Delish Market & Creamery is located in the space formerly home to New Deli. The eatery’s name “Delish” serves as a tribute to the old tenant. The owners have also reintroduced freshly made caramel apples, a treat New Deli had been locally famous for.

“I bought this place last August, and I originally was just going to do sort of a grab and go, just for the area, for the complex. I currently have five convenience stores in town. And so we were just going to sort of make it a high end grab and go, resort style snack place for basically the people that work out here,” explained Steen. “So as we started remodeling, we had a kitchen in the back, and I wasn’t going to do much with the kitchen…he [Tommie] and I sort of discussed the kitchen, and we decided to come up with something where we could actually offer real food, not just grab and go. And that's kind of how it all evolved. So it went from just a simple grab and go convenience store to a full blown deli.”

In addition to kitchen items they have a grab and go section, a shopping area with snacks and other assorted items and a fridge stocked with premade meals courtesy of Ladyfinger Gourmet To-Go based in Raleigh.

Another highlight of Delish is their house-made frozen yogurt. Steen owns the Exxon gas station in Haymount that’s known by locals for its frozen yogurt offerings.

“We’re trying to capitalize on that success [from Haymount Exxon] and bring it down here. So it’s the same exact concept, same flavors, same style machines, and we’re just sort of bringing that to this place and hoping that kids after school can come and get yogurt and frozen coffees and iced coffees and those kinds of things,” Steen said.

The team is also working towards getting their beer and wine license to further expand product offerings.

The space is set up to cater to takeout orders, but there are also a few tables indoors and patio seating for diners who wish to get their food and eat it there.

The store is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. The kitchen is open til 3 p.m. each day and after 3 p.m. the kitchen closes but the store remains open.

As for the future, Steen is optimistic, hoping this is just the first of many. “Hopefully this is number one. That’s the goal. We’re hoping that this concept works for us, and then maybe we can find the same kind of environment somewhere else,” added Steen.
