At every level of our health system, from frontline staff to executive leadership, patient safety and quality of care are not just talking points; they are core values that guide every decision we make.
Cape Fear Valley Health hospitals earned A and B ratings in the Spring 2026 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, reflecting continued improvement in patient safety across the health system. The results place Cape Fear Valley Health among hospitals demonstrating strong performance in patient safety across the region.

This kind of progress does not happen without the dedication of our teams. Every day, staff across our organization put patients first, pay attention to the details and step in to ensure the highest possible level of care. That commitment is what moves us forward and makes a real difference for the patients we serve.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a national measure that evaluates hospitals on their ability to protect patients from preventable harm, including medical errors, injuries and infections. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 32 evidence-based measures of patient safety, including CMS Medicare Patient Safety Indicators and Adverse Events composite, which includes 10 component measures. Further details about the grading process can be found here.
Today’s patients are more informed than ever. With information readily available online, many people actively seek out safety and quality ratings when making decisions about where to receive care. Cape Fear Valley Health recognizes and welcomes this level of engagement and is deeply committed to patient safety, to continuous improvement and to maintaining the trust communities place in us.
In addition, Cape Fear Valley Health’s critical access and specialty hospitals also continue to thrive. Bladen County Hospital achieved a nationally-recognized Geriatric Emergency Department accreditation, Joint Commission Accreditation in Pneumonia, and Joint Commission Accreditation in Sepsis. Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital achieved Joint Commission Accreditation in Respiratory Failure and Joint Commission Accreditation in Wound Care.
These achievements reflect a culture of accountability and a systemwide commitment to safe care.
The Leapfrog Group assigns grades twice a year using publicly reported data and national performance standards to help patients make informed decisions about their care. Learn more at https://www.hospitalsafetygrade.org/.
