Cumberland County has named Diane Pfeifer, a current county employee, as the new director of Animal Services, reflecting the County’s continued commitment to developing internal leadership talent.

Pfeifer brings a combination of public-sector leadership, operational management and hands-on animal care experience to the role. Most recently, she served as an innovation strategist with Cumberland County, where she advised executive leadership on enterprise planning, risk management and service delivery improvement.

In her new role, Pfeifer will oversee animal shelter operations, field services, regulatory compliance and community engagement efforts.

“Animal Services plays a critical role in public safety, animal welfare and community well-being,” said Pfeifer in a press release. “I am honored to step into this role and work alongside dedicated team members who are committed to compassionate care, ethical leadership and continuous improvement.”

Pfeifer’s background includes leading multidisciplinary teams, managing complex budgets and implementing systems that improve accountability and service delivery. Her experience supports modern animal services operations, including shelter management, field services coordination and data informed decision making.

“Diane’s experience in strategic planning, operations and organizational transformation, combined with her passion for animal welfare, will help lead our dedicated Animal Services department into its next chapter,” said County Manager Clarence Grier in a press release. “Her appointment reflects our commitment to recognizing and promoting strong leaders from within our organization.”
