Broaden your horizons at Cape Fear Valley Health

Sponsored Content provided by Hannah Simpson, RACR - Senior Campus Recruiter and Community Partnership Liaison, Cape Fear Valley Health

As medical knowledge, treatments and technologies advance rapidly, healthcare providers must consistently take advantage of learning opportunities to guarantee they are delivering the highest standard of care to their patients.

Cape Fear Valley Health invests in the future of its employees and its current staff through several initiatives aimed at providing workers with opportunities for continuing their education.

One of those readily available methods is employee tuition reimbursement. Employee tuition reimbursement is a CFVH benefit available to employees after 90 days with the company. The reimbursement program covers up to $5,250 per year.

In addition to tuition reimbursement, Cape Fear Valley Health also offers scholarships to help aspiring medical professionals achieve their goals. This program pays for your tuition plus a $500 surplus per semester to help cover the cost of books and supplies. Upon completion of the program, there is a two- to three-year work commitment.

The scholarship program, available to both employees and community members, requires acceptance into an approved program.

Once you have obtained an acceptance letter, you can begin your application by going to https://webportalapp.com/sp/login/cape_fear_valley_health_student_scholarship_program.

Available scholarships:

  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Medical Sonography
  • Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Master of Science in Nursing
  • Radiography and Imaging
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Surgical Technology

Cape Fear Valley Health recently introduced education as one of its core values. Leadership wants everyone to be able to progress, and the health system has a “grow your own” philosophy in terms of growing their staff and growing the local community.

Through these assistance programs, individuals can start their careers, and with the support of the health system, earn their degree and advance through the ranks. One powerful example of Cape Fear Valley’s “grow your own” philosophy is an employee who started in an entry-level comfort runner role, focused on basic patient comfort, and steadily advanced her career through the health system’s scholarship support.

With help from the scholarship program, she progressed from comfort runner to certified nursing assistant, and ultimately became a registered nurse. Today, she serves on the progressive care floor within the critical care service line, demonstrating how Cape Fear Valley Health’s educational investments can transform an entry-level opportunity into a long-term, high-skill clinical career.

Another way that Cape Fear Valley Health provides educational opportunities and work experience is through externships. Cape Fear Valley Health uses externship programs to create a strong internal pipeline for hard‑to‑fill clinical roles. Students are hired into roles like surgical technologist externs and nurse externs while they’re still in school, gaining hands-on experience as uncertified techs or in CNA-like positions. Once they graduate and pass their boards, they are promoted into full clinical roles, helping the health system fill positions from within the local community rather than relying on contract labor.

Cape Fear Valley Health’s emphasis on continuing education is woven into the fabric of the organization through tuition reimbursement, scholarships, internal training programs, and partnerships with local institutions, all designed to make career advancement and higher education more accessible.

Let Cape Fear Valley Health help you reach your career goals, and then join us in caring for our community. For more information, email scholarships@capefearvalley.com or visit https://www.capefearvalley.com/careers/students.
