Kristen Metzbrown, a registered nurse who works in the emergency department at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, is the most recent winner of FirstHealth’s DAISY Award, which recognizes nurses who go above and beyond to fulfill the system’s core purpose – To Care for People.

Metzbrown was nominated by the mother of a patient who came to Moore Regional last fall. The parent praised her exceptional leadership and compassion.

“From the moment we arrived, Kristen set the tone for a calm, controlled and organized response during a very stressful situation. Kristen moved with confidence and purpose, making sure everything was ready for my son and the team before we even stepped into the room,” the parent wrote. “She communicated clearly, kept the process smooth and made sure our family understood what was going on. What stood out even more was the way she balanced everything happening in the department. I could see the level of coordination and the amount of chaos she was managing outside our room, yet she kept full control of it. Despite the workload, she still came in to check on us, make sure we were comfortable and ensure we had what we needed. She did the same for other patients and families, never once showing frustration or rushing through anyone’s concerns.”

Mekel Bergschnieder, MSN, R.N., NE-BC, CEN, administrative director of Moore Regional Hospital’s emergency department, said Metzbrown consistently delivers exceptional care regardless of what is happening in the emergency department.

“Kristen consistently demonstrates compassion in action. No matter how chaotic the environment is, she remains calm, approachable and focused on making others feel cared for and supported,” Bergschneider said in a press release. “Her kindness toward patients, families and coworkers alike reflects the very best of nursing.”

FirstHealth of the Carolinas, which includes Moore Regional Hospital, Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond, Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke and Montgomery Memorial Hospital, is proud to celebrate Metzbrown and all nurses who make a difference in the lives of those we serve every day.
