Congratulations to the graduates of the 2026 My Future So Bright & NCWorks Next Gen Summer Work Program. These young people spent their summers working with local businesses and developing skills and connections that they will carry with them into their careers and futures.
This ceremony was held to recognize the hard work and achievements of these young adults as they take the next step toward their educational and career goals.
“Today’s ceremony marks more than the completion of a summer program. It’s a celebration of hard work, perseverance, personal growth, and the bright future that awaits each of our graduates,” remarked Samantha Wullenwaber, executive director of the Mid-Carolina Regional Council.
The My Future So Bright Program started a couple of years ago with 19 participants. This year, the program had over 140 participants.
“I want to thank you all for holding on, holding strong, and not giving up—not just for the paycheck, but for the excellence that you all are committed to,” stated Dr. Sonny Kelly during the VIP breakfast for the participants.
The Work Readiness Program immersed students in diverse real-world placements—from healthcare and mental health to technology, childcare, the arts and nonprofit organizations—where they could explore careers while making meaningful contributions. Supported by dedicated interns and staff, participants learned to navigate professional environments, complete essential paperwork and engage positively with clients, coworkers, and community members.
Along the way, they developed critical soft skills such as resilience, communication, public speaking and relationship-building, as well as hard skills in financial literacy, event planning, and workplace professionalism. By the end of the program, students were not only more confident and focused, but also equipped with practical tools to build their credit, manage money and set a strong foundation for their futures.
