The historical Henry Vann Building in Downtown Clinton will serve as the location for Sampson County’s first taproom. R&R Brewing is expanding to Clinton to offer locals a new option for dining and drinking.

“I think if you look at other places around the state, the microbrewery/taproom approach is quite effective at both drawing people to the downtown area, and also as an economic boost. So I’m thrilled about it,” remarked  City of Clinton Councilman Daniel Ruggles.

Additionally, Ruggles shared that the owner of the building, Anne Faircloth, is working with a developer and they’re planning to have five condo units upstairs on the second floor. This will make the location a nice mixed-use property contributing to the vibrant downtown atmosphere.

Owner of R&R Brewing Ryan Roberts has already been sharing his products with the Clinton community through several different restaurants, but he is excited to now open up a storefront in that market as well.

Roberts shared that the company has been looking to expand for a little over a year now and “everything kind of fell into place” for Downtown Clinton. Even before he received the cold call from the property owner proposing the idea, Roberts shared that Clinton was on their shortlist of potential locations for expansion.

Roberts opened the original location of R&R Brewing in Mount Olive, NC in 2018. The Mount Olive location operates with a food truck model where they have different food trucks rotating through Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. However, Roberts shared that the new location will have a full-time in house kitchen that will serve lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday. They also plan to have a large indoor space for performances as well to accommodate different events.

Ruggles mentioned that R&R Brewing is looking to be operational in Clinton by January 2024.

When asked about how this addition to downtown may encourage additional economic growth, Ruggles responded: “What I hope it will do is drive interest not just for taprooms/microbreweries, but for business in general. We have a beautiful downtown, and we have several storefronts that would be prime for somebody to start a business…I think just having a top notch one [taproom] would do a great job of attracting other businesses. So we have a nice diverse economic landscape.”
