The Fayetteville City Council voted on Monday, Aug. 24 to prepare the current site of Fire Station No. 4 for reconstruction. The move gives City leadership the green light to contract a project-management group to oversee the site preparation and rebuild efforts through occupancy of the relocated station.

Earlier this year, the Council voted to accept an independent engineering report by Applied Building Sciences (ABS) which recommended demolishing the superstructure and foundation to allow for reconstruction of the building. Site preparation activities are slated to begin this fall. 

Cumming Group – an industry-leading, international project management and cost consulting firm with a focus on construction – will lead the project management. Phase I includes razing the building and site to return it to a clear, buildable state, then reconstructing Fire Station No. 4 utilizing the original building and site plans. The City of Fayetteville also plans to engage a contractor using a qualifications-based Construction Manager at Risk selection process. The Cumming Group will lead the City’s team through the evaluation and recommended selection of the general contractor. The City will provide an updated estimate on the completion of Fire Station No. 4 in the coming months.

Construction on the current structure began in 2022, before halting. The City sued contractor W.B. Brawley (Brawley) for repeatedly performing defective work and refusing to correct it, among other things. Fayetteville also sued Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of America (Travelers) for breaching its bond obligations owed to the City. The parties filed a joint motion to dismiss all claims in February 2026 and will attempt to resolve the disputes through arbitration. 

Fire Station No. 4 is located on Bragg Boulevard. The building was designed to replace an aging facility located on Stamper Road and improve emergency response times for about 5,000 homes in the area. The existing station continues to provide service, with other City Fire resources available for coverage.
