FirstHealth is pleased to launch a new support group for people who have experienced amputation surgery.
The Step Forward Amputee Support Group held its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, at the Clara McLean House in Pinehurst.
Additional meetings will be held on the final Tuesday of each month.
“Our goal is to help amputees, people with limb loss or limb difference and their families cope with the initial shock of loss and regain control of their lives through education, compassion and encouragement,” said infectious diseases physician Gretchen Arnoczy, M.D. in a press release. “Amputees can do virtually anything they want to do, and we want to support them in their endeavors.”
Each of the support group meetings will feature a presentation followed by a time for questions, answers and discussion.
“One important part of the group is time for socializing and physical activities that exercise the mind as well as the body,” continued Dr. Arnoczy in the release. “We hope this group can become a lifeline to empower our patients to reclaim independence and build confidence as they move forward in their lives.”

Big T’s has been a local favorite of Hope Mills since 2000 when Timmy (Big T) and Donna Gray first opened right on Hope Mills Lake. It is a seasonal restaurant, so many of Big T’s loyal customers were happy to hear they would now be open year-round, seven days a week.
