Fayetteville to host 79th reunion of the Legendary Easy Company, 101st Airborne Division

By Staff Report, posted 3 months ago

The City of Fayetteville is proud to welcome the descendants of Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division—immortalized in the Emmy Award-winning HBO miniseries “Band of Brothers”—for their 79th reunion. The commemorative gathering will include a special evening program, “Remembering the Band of Brothers,” hosted at the U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum (ASOM) on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 6;00 to 8:00 p.m.

The real-life relatives of Mike Ranney, Eugene “Doc” Roe, Lynn “Buck” Compton, George Luz, Don Malarkey, Alex Penkala, Charles “Eddie” Rhinehart and Walter Gordon—heroes portrayed in “Band of Brothers”—will be in attendance, offering an opportunity for the public to connect directly with the families who carry forward their stories. A highlight of the program will be “Through the Eyes of My Father,” a powerful presentation by George Luz Jr., son of the late George Luz, sharing personal reflections on his father’s service.

The U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum, located in the heart of downtown Fayetteville, serves as the U.S. Army’s only museum not situated on a military base. Through immersive exhibits, artifact displays and life-size dioramas, the museum chronicles over 80 years of U.S. Army Airborne and Special Operations history, from World War II to present-day missions. Its dedication to preserving the legacy of the 82nd Airborne Division and Special Operations forces makes it a natural gathering place to honor Easy Company.

“Fayetteville has always been a place defined by resilience, service and sacrifice,” said Devin Heath, CEO of DistiNCtly Fayetteville in a press release. “Hosting the descendants of the Band of Brothers here is not only an honor, but also a powerful reminder of how our community continues to be shaped by the courage of those who served before us.”

Hospitality leaders across Fayetteville are proud to support this historic gathering sharing in a press release:

“It’s humbling to stand alongside these heroes whose bravery continues to inspire generations. We’re proud to help ensure their time here is filled with warmth, respect, and lasting memories,” said Beau Benton, president of LBA Hospitality, operator of the Home2 Suites Hotel Fayetteville Fort Liberty, which is hosting the descendants.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to honor those who gave so much in service to our country. Being part of this event is a reminder of the connections hospitality can foster—between people, stories, and history itself,” said Farrah Adams, chief operating officer of LBA Hospitality.
