The crossroads of N.C. 710 and Prospect Road is scheduled to close the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 1 for approximately two months for the construction of a roundabout.

The signed detour will consist of Red Bank Road, Hezekiah Road, N.C. 710 and Saint Anna Road. Drivers should plan for a longer commute using the detour and be alert near the work site.

The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded the $2 million project in June to reduce the risk of serious crashes at this location. The roundabout will replace the all-way stop at this location.

Roundabouts improve safety by requiring drivers to slow down and move in one direction as indicated by signs and pavement markings around the circle, which will have a raised concrete island. Drivers must yield to any traffic already in the roundabout before entering it. Street lighting will be added to the roundabout to improve visibility.
