NCDMV set to further expand office hours beginning April 7; Summer Saturday hours return to Fayetteville office

By Staff Report, posted 1 year ago

The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) is set to again extend service hours at its driver license offices beginning next week.

On April 7, 42 offices will join 50 others opening an hour early at 7 a.m., offering an extra hour of appointments and service time.

“I am ecstatic that we are able to further expand our service hours,” said DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin in a press release. “Beginning April 7, 80% of our 115 driver license offices will be open for 10 hours a day, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

NCDMV has continued to work to provide customers with more service hours to address the state’s growing population. In September 2022, the division increased the number of offices that opened at 7 a.m. from 25 to 35. That number grew to 40 in May 2023, and then to 45 in August 2023. Five more offices were added in September 2024 to get to 50. The list of 50 offices already opening at 7 a.m. can be found here.

Offices within the Greater Fayetteville Business Journal’s coverage area that will begin opening at 7 a.m. include the Elizabethtown office in Bladen County and the Stedman office in Cumberland County.

Offices in the GFBJ coverage area already opening at 7 a.m. are:

  • Aberdeen- 521 S. Sandhills Blvd.
  • Fayetteville South- 2439 Gillespie St.
  • Fayetteville West- 831 Elm St.
  • Lumberton- 4650 Kahn Drive

NCDMV’s summer walk-in service hours will also return later this year. Nearly 17,000 transactions occurred at 16 offices during the 12 Saturdays of the 2024 season.

This year, the division is planning to expand to 20 offices offering services from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturdays from June 7-Aug. 23.

“We are doing everything we can with the number of offices and staff that we have to meet the surging demand for our services in our growing state,” said Commissioner Goodwin in a press release.

The only office in the GFBJ coverage area that will have walk-in services (no appointments necessary) on Saturdays from June 7-Aug. 23 (closed July 5 for the holiday) will be the office located at 831 Elm St. in Fayetteville.
