Funding opportunities now available for small businesses

By Staff Report, posted 1 hour ago

The City of Fayetteville is now accepting applications from local small businesses and commercial property owners looking to improve their storefront, invest in commercial property or take the next step toward growing their business.

Grant and loan funding is available through the Can Do Economic Development Programs, with applications open through Oct. 30.

Three funding opportunities are available based on the needs of the business or property owner: Can-Do CORE, Can-Do EDGE and Can-Do BOOST.

  • Can-Do CORE provides matching grant assistance of up to $7,500 for smaller exterior improvements in Council Priority Redevelopment Areas. Eligible improvements may include storefront upgrades, signage, lighting, landscaping and other enhancements that improve the appearance of commercial properties.
  • Can-Do EDGE provides 50/50 matching grant assistance for larger exterior and site improvement projects. Available citywide, EDGE can support more substantial improvements to commercial properties while encouraging reinvestment, strengthening commercial corridors and supporting job creation.
  • Can-Do BOOST provides financing to help eligible businesses and property developers close funding gaps when acquiring commercial real estate. BOOST can support property acquisition combined with new construction or rehabilitation, helping businesses move from leasing to ownership, expand operations or return underused commercial property to productive use.

“These programs were designed to meet businesses where they are while also advancing the City’s broader economic development goals,” said Economic Development Manager Derrick McArthur in a press release. “Whether a business is improving its storefront, making a significant investment in an existing property, or purchasing commercial real estate to expand, Can Do gives the City flexible tools to help leverage private investment, support job creation and encourage long-term reinvestment in Fayetteville.”

Applications must be submitted by Oct. 30.

Business and commercial property owners interested in applying can visit FayettevilleNC.gov/CanDoPrograms to review available programs, eligibility requirements and application information.
