A new dessert shop just opened up at 1506 A Purdue Drive in Fayetteville, NC. The shop began serving customers on Sept. 27, delighting diners with its signature selection of cakes, cheesecakes, baklava, croissants and more.

Cake Me Away is owned by Homa Mohammad. She and her husband, Helal Dur, are also the owners of Afghan Kabob on Raeford Road. Mohammad shared that they began a trial run of this business on a small scale by offering some cakes at Afghan Kabob. The response was so positive Mohammad decided to expand to a full store for the dessert business.

The business is modeled after dessert shops that Mohammad enjoys visiting in bigger cities like Raleigh. Cake Me Away’s desserts are produced in Italy, distributed in the U.S. and sold at the shop.

Top sellers include carrot walnut cake, red velvet cake and pistachio ricotta cake. Pistachio cheesecake and dulce de leche cheesecake are also popular menu items. In addition to food,  Customers can treat themselves to a sweet drink such as coffee or Italian sweet tea. The shop also offers gluten-free options and hopes to expand to offer dairy-free options in the future.

“I love my customers. I just love this, [this] is like a passion, this is a dream that I've always wanted to do, and I finally got the opportunity to, and I love it. I love coming here every morning…I love catering to people, and I always wanted to give them something that would make them happy. Sweets make you happy,” remarked Mohammad.

Homa highlighted the support of her husband, her two sons and her friends who all pushed her to achieve this goal.

Cake Me Away is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. To find out more about the new sweets shop check out their website.
