James and Alicia Orlando first announced their plans to bring their brand new brewing business to downtown Fayetteville in February of 2024. Now, they’ve opened their doors to guests. The couple celebrated the grand opening of North South Brewing Company on May 31.
During the process of laying out plans, getting permits approved and beginning construction, the team began brewing in their new space and their product is currently being distributed in seven locations between Fayetteville and Southern Pines from kegs in bars and restaurants to cans on shelves at stores.
Construction officially began in mid-January 2025. During construction, James shared they were able to open up the back half of the building on the weekends for people to get a taste of what’s to come.
James shared that it has been really nice for him and his wife Alicia to tackle this project together.
“We’ve never had the opportunity to kind of be together and work together in this sort of capacity. So we kind of play off each other’s strengths and [enjoy] learning from each other on different things and being able to bounce ideas off of each other and make sure that we're we’re opening this place the way that we want to,” remarked James.
North South Brewing Company is the largest tap room in the area by size including a room for private parties that can accommodate about 30 guests. The space is described as dog-friendly and kid-friendly aiming to make everyone feel welcome. They’ve also partnered with Bella Nonna food truck to be the permanent food vendor at their site.
At the grand opening, North South Brewing had 11 of their own beers on tap as well as cider, wine and soft drinks. There was a mini vendor market, cornhole and live music.
“I’m looking forward to meeting all the new people that enjoy craft beer like we do, being able to have the product for them–the different types of beers and all that stuff for them to try–and being able to talk about beer with them and give everyone a nice, safe space to come out and enjoy,” shared James.
North South Brewing Company is located at 304 Williams Street. North South Brewing Company will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Since announcing their intention to move into the historical Henry Vann building in 2023, the R & R team has been busy working with local and state historical preservation organizations to renovate the building.
