The Metabolic & Weight Management Center’s bariatric surgery program has once again been recognized for delivering exceptional care to patients undergoing weight-loss surgery. The program has earned the Bariatric Center of Excellence (COE) designation from Optum, a leading health services and innovation company.
This recognition reaffirms the Metabolic & Weight Management Center’s commitment to providing high-quality, cost-effective bariatric care. The Clinical Sciences Institute of Optum evaluated the bariatric program and confirmed that it meets all clinical qualifications and maintains a cost-effective contract for participation in the COE network.

General and bariatric surgeons with Pinehurst Surgical Clinic and the Metabolic & Weight Management Center, David Grantham, M.D., and Raymond Washington, M.D., have spearheaded the success of the longstanding bariatric surgery program.
“Our team is passionate about helping patients reclaim their health and confidence through safe, evidence-based surgical care,” said Dr. Grantham in a press release. “Being named a Center of Excellence reinforces the strength of our program and the results we help our patients achieve.”
Dr. Washington added in a press release, “Weight-loss surgery is a powerful tool, and our approach combines surgical expertise with comprehensive support to help each patient succeed for the long term. We’re proud to offer this level of care close to home.”
The Optum Bariatric Centers of Excellence network identifies facilities that demonstrate excellence in delivering quality bariatric surgical services. Patients pursuing surgical weight-loss options at the Metabolic & Weight Management Center have access to a dedicated team of board certified surgeons, nurses, dietitians, behavioral health professionals and support staff who work together to support lasting lifestyle change.
