Cumberland County bridge requires detours; Road closures start Jan. 12

By Staff Report, posted 4 months ago

A popular route in Hope Mills will have a detour starting next week while bridge maintenance is performed.

Legion Road near its intersection with Cameron Road will close beginning Jan. 12 for about six weeks, so workers for the N.C. Department of Transportation can conduct maintenance on the steel beams of a 65-year-old bridge spanning Little Rockfish Creek.

The work includes removing corroded sections and welding new ones onto the steel beams.

The signed detour will send drivers onto Cameron Road, South Main Street and Lakeview Road. Message boards announcing the upcoming closure were set up near the bridge Monday.

The work is expected to take up to six weeks to complete before NCDOT can reopen the road. The department will report the status of this closure on its traveler information website at DriveNC.gov.
