The Gray’s Creek Incorporation Committee has officially paused its signature petition timeline to establish an open working debate alongside anti-incorporation community influencers. This deliberate slowdown ensures all residents can thoroughly examine, challenge and refine proposals concerning the area's future before any legislative action is taken.
The upcoming collaborative workshops will focus strictly on three core areas:
• Border Resolution: Establishing clear, protective municipal boundaries that shield the community from outside annexation while respecting the preferences of rural landowners.
• Police Protection: Refining a cost-effective law enforcement plan that relies on dedicated Cumberland County Sheriff patrols rather than funding a costly standalone police department.
• Development Concerns: Designing local zoning and land-use frameworks to explicitly preserve the rural heritage of Gray's Creek and prevent dense commercial overdevelopment.
"We want a town built on consensus, not division," said Dr. Robb Twaddell, initiative leader, in a press release. "By slowing down, we can sit at the same table with critics, address valid concerns, and collaboratively design a framework that protects Gray’s Creek without creating unnecessary tax burdens."
Meeting schedules and workshop locations will be published next week on the official community website.
