As progress continues on two main park projects happening in Hope Mills, the Town’s Parks and Recreation department is working to keep residents updated. The department released updates on Feb. 28 for the new Heritage Park developments and plans for a new splash pad.

The Heritage Park Phase 1 Project consists of the preservation of the historic old mill flume, and the conversion of the flume to a stormwater control measure that will treat the new impervious surfaces constructed in the park. Other park amenities include the construction of a new driveway, restroom, parking lot, event lawn and the preservation and placement of the floodgates as shade canopies over benches. The project also includes an interpretive element that will explain the history of the Town, the mill and how the flume has been repurposed to treat stormwater and protect Little Rock Creek.

On Jan. 22, 2024, the Hope Mills Board of Commissioners accepted the bid from K & C Contractors, Inc. and awarded the construction contract in the amount of $1,277,400. A pre-construction meeting was held with the Contractor on Feb. 7, 2024 and a Notice To Proceed was issued by Parks and Recreation on Feb.19. The project is on schedule to be substantially complete by Aug. 19, 2024.

K & C Contractors, Inc. mobilized and has begun site demolition, erosion control installation and location of existing utilities. K & C has submitted shop drawings for structural reinforcement and concrete design, plumbing submittals and electrical materials.

The building contractor for the restroom has submitted engineering drawings and building permit applications.

Construction on the long awaited splash pad additions to Hope Mills Park has also begun.

As of Feb. 28., access to the park has been limited. Due to splash pad utility construction, the parking lot and playground gates closest to the Golfview Road gate are scheduled to be closed  for the next two months. The playground is still open, but guests will have to use the gate in the main parking lot closest to the basketball courts.
