On Friday, May 8, the City of Fayetteville and Fayetteville firefighters celebrated the groundbreaking for the new Fire Station 16 located at 1710 Cedar Creek Road.

“For too long, our firefighters serving this area have operated out of a temporary and leased facility just up the road. And while our fire department has done an extraordinary job, as they always do, they deserve better. This community deserves better, and today, we're taking a major step toward delivering exactly that,” shared City Manager Dr. Douglas J. Hewett.

This new facility will be approximately 11,000 square feet and will include living and working spaces for firefighters, two drive-through apparatus bays, a training and community meeting space, fitness areas, offices, a kitchen, dorm rooms and support spaces such as storage, decontamination and mechanical rooms. This location will also feature a playground for families to enjoy.

Barr & Barr/HORUS Construction was selected as the Construction Manager, with Davis Kane Architects leading the design and Cummings Group performing Owner’s Advisor services.

The total budget for Fire Station 16 is $10.8 million, including design, construction, equipment and project support services. Fire Station 16 is the first project funded by the voter-approved $60 million Public Safety Bond.

“I want to echo the manager's statements largely, and thank everybody for making this happen, especially retired Chief Mike Hill. He put most of this in motion, and we're just reaping the rewards from that. So we don't want to let him sneak out here without taking some of that praise,” shared Fayetteville Fire Chief Kevin Dove. “We also want to thank the citizens for their commitment to public safety and voting for the bond, along with the council and the city manager, who always support us and what our needs are. I also have to give a special thanks to our partners and Chief Ferguson, who is our project manager for this… The biggest thanks I want to give is to our firefighters who have been real troopers through all of this.”

The new station is expected to be completed in Spring 2027.

The Hive of Hope Mills is open for business: Big T's serves as anchor tenant

Big T’s has been a local favorite of Hope Mills since 2000 when Timmy (Big T) and Donna Gray first opened right on Hope Mills Lake. It is a seasonal restaurant, so many of Big T’s loyal customers were happy to hear they would now be open year-round, seven days a week.
